What’s new for the 2020 Goya One 3 Pro?
- New outline: longer midsection of parallel rails to improve ride through chop.
- Added tail volume for improved stability and planing.
- Revised bottom shape with lower entry rocker for smoother acceleration.
What I Liked: In a word, horsepower. The wind died as I hit the water. The video tells the rest. In what smacked of wind foiling conditions, the 2020 Goya One 3 Pro 86 burst onto a plane, hit jaw-loosening top speeds, blasted through lulls, and – most surprisingly – encouraged jumps. The latter wouldn’t be a big deal except I was using a minuscule 4.2 meter sail. The Goya One 3 Pro didn’t demand much sail power to come alive underfoot, perhaps thanks to its added tail volume. Rigging small, riding with sail power that’s light in hand — my 47-year-old joints enjoyed this dynamic. Less load on my body. More margin for error in maneuvers. Fun fun. As for jibes and swell slashing, the Goya One 3 Pro’s impressive horsepower didn’t seem to carry carving penalties. That said, there wasn’t much swell to carve up. Separately, I dig the 2020 Goya One 3 Pro’s graphics, and its lower retail price, which falls well under many carbon construction freewave rivals.
What I Didn’t Like: One session does not make a comprehensive test. But it’s sure hard to find flaws in a board that saved a skunking in such dramatic fashion. My most vivid memory driving home wasn’t from the water, but instead from derigging my 4.2 alongside riders who had been using 100-ish liter boards with 5.5 and 6.0 meter sails.
Board Best Suits: The Goya One 3 Pro’s mix of early planing, impressive speed and agility is an unbeatable fit for bump and jump sailing as well as real-world waves. Also a great option for those who have grown up, and grown out of macho “rig big” mantras. The board’s performance is poised to shrink board quivers by enabling riders to get more from less, thanks to its staggering wind range.
