FoilX Foiling Paddle For Downwind, Flat Water & Surfing
THE BEST PADDLE FOR SUP FOILING
The best SUP foiling paddle – The all new FoilX SUP foiling paddle is used for downwind, surf, and flat-water foiling by Hawaiian foiling pioneers, Andrew Gibbons, Gabriella Bella, Jack Ho, Finn Spencer, and Jeffrey Spencer. Featuring a low 9° blade angle and a low aspect ratio blade outline. The FoilX has a powerful catch, and the shorter blade promotes a higher paddling cadence. A shallow power scoop and reduced blade volume further encourages increased cadence and explosive paddling – helping you to get up onto foil with fewer paddle strokes. With increased area in the toe of the blade, a quick and shallow paddle stroke will give instant boost if necessary to keep you from dropping off foil between swells. The componentized system enables you to customize your FoilX to suit your paddling needs and replace parts as desired.
LEADING BLADE TECHNOLOGY
Black Project is the global leader in paddling innovation. The FoilX features a single shallow scoop design with extended dihedral shaped edges. This design is optimized for high cadence and high-power output, and it delivers forward thrust in a smooth and controlled manner. The FoilX incorporates REACT+ Technology (RE+T), with two external carbon plates, amplifying blade power, responsiveness, and energy return. Strategically placing these laminates on the outer layer of the structure multiplies the overall effect, resulting in an impressive stiffness-to-weight ratio. The RE+T is tuned for each blade size, ensuring optimal flex tailored to paddler size. The distinctive design of the FoilX incorporates our Power Ridge (PRT) and Reduced Blade Volume (RBVT) technologies which when combined, lead to a strong, light, and efficient blade. With too many features to list, when choosing Black Project, you are assured that you are putting your performance, safety, and foiling stoke, in the hands of a company, who like you, only accepts excellence.
RESPONSONIVE EROGNOMIC SHAFT
The Tour Carbon shaft is a key component of the FoilX which brings reduced weight, increased power, responsiveness, grip, and comfort. The tapered oval design increases stiffness in the lower shaft area for enhanced stability and power transfer to the blade. The more flexible and thinner round upper section helps to reduce fatigue. The oval-shaped middle-grip area provides a directional feel and a secure grip with a natural carbon-textured matte finish. Our lightest, most responsive shafts are built with 30T carbon. Available in a range of stiffness options, the Tour Carbon shafts enable customization to suit your paddling needs.
AWARD WINNING HANDLE
The award-winning hollow carbon PowerGrip ensures that every ounce of effort is translated into forward motion; the ergonomic design maintains comfort throughout extended paddling sessions.
CONSTRUCTION & COMPONENTIZATION
We have seven+ years experience working with foiling athletes in Hawaii. These athletes have benefited from our componentized paddle system with hot glue assembly; this enables all parts to be swapped or replaced as needed. Ideal for optimization but also in case of damage, this unique system is great for the paddler and better for the environment. The FoilX introduces our new X-Flex high density CNC foam core, which is both stiffer and more resistant to impact, this is combined with new higher modulus carbon laminates to increase strength, reduce weight, and enhance flex properties.
HIGHLY EFFICIENT TAKE-OFF
LIFETIME PART REPLACEMENT POLICY
Replacement parts are available at a reduced cost throughout the life of your paddle. More details about our full policy will be published in due course.
BEST FOR
Flat water SUP foiling, Downwind SUP Foiling, SUP Surf Foiling.
RECOMMENDED SIZES
The FoilX paddle sizing table below is a guide only. Actual choice will depend on several factors. On flat water go bigger, in windy conditions and small foils use a smaller blade for higher cadence, for surf a smaller blade is also good. Less experienced paddlers will benefit from a bigger blade whereas experienced paddlers will be able to use a smaller blade. Remember that we have already done the upsizing needed for foiling for you, select blade size based on weight.
RECOMMENDED PADDLE LENGTH
The FoilX length guide below is a guide only. With lower aspect blades, a shorter paddle is preferable. For riding on higher volume boards or if you like mid-foiling strokes, then consider 1-2 inches (2.5 – 5cm) longer than your height for more reach. Remember that your new paddle will be assembled with hot glue, which means you can always shorten if needed. If your paddle is too long you will struggle to paddle at a high cadence.
RECOMMENDED SHAFTS
Selecting the correct shaft is a function of your paddle length and weight. A lower flex number relates to less flex and produces a stiffer paddle (lower flex rating). Heavier and taller paddlers will need a stiffer shaft whereas smaller and lighter paddlers need more flex (higher flex rating). Length affects stiffness, select based on your paddle height and weight. Stiffer is not always better, the right shaft for your weight and height, is the best shaft.
